Before you lift a patient, what three things should you consider?
The object, your limitations, communication
When it comes time to lift a patient, what are the rules that you must follow to prevent injury?
Position feet properly, use your legs, never turn or twist, do not compensate when lifting with one hand, keep weight as close as possible to your body, and use a stair chair when carrying down the stairs whenever possible
When do you use an emergency move?
When the scene is hazardous, care for life-threatening conditions requires repositioning, the need to reach other patients
When do you use an urgent move?
Required care can only be done if moved, factors at scene cause the patient to decline
When do you use a nonurgent move?
When there is no immediate threat to life
What are the different emergency moves?
Long axis drag, carries, assists
What devices can be used to carry a patient?
Power stretcher, portable stretcher, scoop stretcher
How do you move a patient with a suspected spinal injury?
Spine Board
How do you move a patient with no suspected spinal injury?
Extremity lift, Direct ground lift, Draw-sheet method, Direct carry
What position do you place an unconscious patient with no suspected spinal injury?
Recovery position
What position do you place a conscious patient with no suspected spinal injury?
Position of comfort
What position do you place a conscious patient with no suspected spinal injury in shock?
Supine position
What position do you place a conscious patient with suspected spinal injury?
Restrict motion
