EMR Ranking And Calculation Flashcards
What is the EMR ranking?
Radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, x-ray, gamma
Using the EMR rank system, what is the wave with the lowest energy to highest?
Lowest energy: Radio waves
Highest energy:Gamma rays
Using the EMR system, what wave has the lowest frequency to the highest frequency?
Radio waves have the lowest frequency
Gamma rays have the highest frequency
Using the EMR system, what wave has the longest and shortest wavelength?
Radio waves have the longest wavelength
Gamma rays have the shortest wavelength
What are radio waves?
The cause nuclei to spin, resulting in MRI scanning and they control AM FM radio stations.
What are microwave waves?
They cause electrons to spin, making molecules rotate. It heats up food.
What are infrared waves?
They cause molecules to vibrate. Night vision googles and OH vibration determine if someone is drunk. (800nm to 1 ųm)
What are visible waves?
They are colors we can see. Electrons are excited to the highest energy level. (300nm to 500nm)
What are ultraviolet waves?
They cause skin to burn. Electrons are excited into the highest energy level. (300 to 10nm)
What are x ray waves?
They cause inner shell electrons to be excited. (.01 to 10nm)
What are gamma rays?
Because they are so strong they cause the nucleus to fall apart.
What does “E=hv” represent?
Directly proportional to the “v” frequency and “E” energy. ( both increase)
What does V= c/ wavelength represent?
The wavelength and frequency are inversely related to the speed of light.
What does E=hc/wavelength represent?
Inversely proportional to the wavelength (wavelength increases, energy decreases)
