What is empathetic rapport?
exhibiting a compassionate attitude, demonstrating understanding of the clients experience, and setting the tone for therapeutic treatment.
What is communicative attunement?
an active, ongoing effort to stay moment by moment, in tune with the clients communication and effectively understanding and reflecting the clients communication and unfolding experiences
What is person empathy?
A sustained effort to understand the clients experiences that form the background for their current experience
Which measure of empathy most predicts outcome of therapy?
Client-recieved empathy
What are the six conditions hypothesised by Rodgers for therapeutic change to occur?
Counsellor genuineness, unconditional positive regard, OSBDOSBD
What are the three neuroanatomically based subprocesses involved in empathy?
a) Emotional Stimulation (Mirroring emotional elements of the others bodily experience) b) Conceptual-perspective taking process (prefrontal/temporal) c) Emotion regulation, used to soothe personal distress, then mobilizing helping behaviour

Attempt to get at what is implicit in clients narratives but not yet articulated. Guesses.
Describe the purported 3 components of the psychotherapy relationship, the working alliance, the transference configuration, and the real relationship.
- Working Alliance. Joining of the reasonable self of the client and the therapist for the purpose of the work to wards mutually agreed upon goals.
- Transference configuration. Distortions from both the client and the therapist - feelings and expectations that the other has not ‘earned’.
- Real relationship. Dimension of the relationship independent of transference. Genuine and realistic
