What is Empathy?
The ability to understand and share the feelings of another
What is Empathetic Care?
The ability to share a patients emotions and feelings. Being able to recognise and to validate a patient’s fear, anxiety, pain, and worry.
How is Empathetic Care useful in clinical settings?
It enables radiographers build patients trust, calms anxiety and improves health outcomes as a whole
What are the outcomes of showing empathy in healthcare?
- Better patient outcomes.
- Improved patient satisfaction.
- Improved patient compliance.
- Better communication.
What is Compassion?
The desire to alleviate the suffering of the other person
What is Sympathy?
An emotional response to the suffering of the other person.
Understanding and realising something bad has happened to someone and and you imagine that pain.
How is Compassion and Sympathy different from Empathy?
Compassion and Sympathyare reactive responses while Empathy is a skill that can be learned and developed.
