James-Lange theory-
your body feels it before your emotions do
= Stimulus-Arousal-Emotions (feel sorry because you cry. Afraid because we tremble)

when something happens, you feel the emotions and respond at the same time

Schater-Singer theory
- your stimulated, produce a physical reaction but a specific reaction (cognitive label) then you react

misattribution of arousal
=Feeling a certain emotion but not understanding why you have that emotion
White et al. (1981) study
=Men running in place for 15 or 120 seconds and watch a video of an attractive vs unattractive woman they were going to meet then asked how attracted they were to them.
“hedonic treadmill”
People stay at the same level of happiness/unhappiness that they started off with no matter what temporarily happened

Maner, Rouby, & Gonzaga (2008) study
= Have people write a memory of being happy or being in love and then had them looking at a pcture of the opposite sex. They found that those who wrote about love looked at the picture spent less time.
Becker et al. (2006) study

=Looking at reaction times on how we perceive faces
=*Much more likely to associate males with mean faces and females with happy faces.
