- Developed by Abraham Maslow; model for human personality development hierarchy of needs
- Purposed that in order to meet full potential first the base needs to be met

Stress- General Adaptation Syndrome
Response to stress (three stage)
Stages:
Alarm, Resistance, Exhaustion
Alarm- Reaction Stage (General Adaptation Syndrome)
“flight or fight”
- Body recognizes stress send signal to hypothalamus and body releases glucocorticoids which releases adrenaline & cortisol
- Heart rate and blood pressure increases, blood glucose also rise
- Changes that occur to the body by the autonomic nervous system (Sympathetic Branch)
Resistance (General Adaptation Syndrome)
- Body tries to counteract the physiological changes that occurred during the alarm stage
- Governed by the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system which tries to bring the body back to normal
- If the stress remain the body will stay in a state of stress
