What is Health?
- According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (1947)- “the state of complete physical mental and social well being not just the merely absence of disease and infirmity”
- WHO also added to the definition to include – people’s valve system or belief can have an impact on their overall health

- Absence of disease
- Ability to perform ADLs

- Ability to express and manage feelings and wants

-Ability of people to interact with other people and social environment
Intellectual Health (Domains of Health)
- Capacity for reasoning, solving problems and performing other mental functions accurately
- Ability to learn from previous mistakes
Spiritual Health (Domains of Health)
- Person’s connection to self, significant others and community at large
- Belief system
- Purpose to life
Environmental Health (Domains of Health)
-Area of health that focused on the interaction of humans with all aspects of their environment
Wellness
Adopting patterns of behaviors that can lead to improved health and heightened life satisfaction
Areas
Focuses on actions that are designed to maintain a current health state or advance a health state to an improved level
Health Education (Areas)
- Profession of educating people in areas of health
- Development of individual, group, institutional, community and strategies to improve
- Knowledge, attitudes, skills and behavior
Community Health (Areas)
- Activities directed toward improving the health of the public
- Activities employing resources available common to members of the community (Ex: bike lanes, Family nights)
Public Health (Areas)
- Study and practices of health promotion and disease prevention at the population level
- Branch of medicine that focuses of government health (CDC- Preventing epidemics; Preventing injuries; Preventing environmental hazards)
