Failure to Thrive
A condition in which babies do not grow and develop property.
Temperament
A persons unique emotional makeup; helps determine how you react to your environment.
Self-Centered
Thinking about ones own needs and wants and not those of others.
Negativism
Doing the opposite of what others want; caused by the desire for independence, frustration, & the realization of being a separate person.
Separation Anxiety
The fear of being away from parents, familiar caregivers, or the normal environment.
Sibling Rivalry
The competition between brothers or sisters for parents’ affection and attention.
Self-Concept
How people see themselves; typically positive or negative.
Self-Confidence
Belief in ones own abilities.
Initiative
The motivation to accomplish more. Those who are encouraged in these efforts gain self-confidence.
Attachment
A baby’s bond to his or her main caregiver;helps a baby develop trust, self esteem, & social and emotional skills.
Emotional Development
The process of learning to recognize and express feelings and to establish a personal identity.
