Externalizing and internalizing behaviors
Behavioral deficits
-Academic achievements (60% dropout), social skills(difficulty making friends), lang and communication
Childhood anxiety and depression symptoms
Behavioral manifestations- avoidance, nail biting, no eye contact, clingyness, thumb sucking
Psychological Responses-muscle tension, upset tummy, vomiting, dizziness, flushes/chills
Childhood anxiety at school
Nurse visits, separation anxiety, parents anxiety to childs anxiety, test taking difficulties
Child depression at school
isolate themselves, shows academic dysfunction, absentences no homework, repeating grade level

Causes
Biological factors. Brain injury, genetics, temperament. Environmental factors- Home (parents actions), parenting, school, community (drugs)
Identification and Assessment
Screening test used to determine if intervention is needed. Behavior rating scales or checklist. Direct observation.
