Emphasize some emotions are immediate without conscious appraisal (aka fight or flight response)
What are the basic emotional expressions?
Sad, angry, happy, disgust, surprised
Catharsis
EX: College midnight finals scream
Extreme change in emotion, occurring as the result of experiencing strong emotions
Hypothesis: theory that “releasing” aggressive energy relieves aggressive urges
Feel good, do good phenomenon
People’s tendency to be helpful when already in a good mood
Subjective well-being
Self-percieved happiness or satisfaction
Adaptation-level phenomenon
Tendency people have to quickly adapt to a new situation, until that situation becomes the norm. Constantly raises the level for what is new, exciting as each new thing becomes the norm
Relative deprivation
The perception that you are worse off than others you compare yourself to (typically leads to fustration)
