EMG Flashcards
What information does EMG provide?
Real-time information, focal irritation detection of nerve roots
How many levels above and below the surgery site should be recorded?
2 levels
What are upper motor neurons?
Pyramidal cells that connect cerebral motor cortex w/ lower motor neuron in spinal cord.
What are lower motor neurons?
Connects upper motor neurons with muscle fibers.
What are slow eeg signals?
Delta, Theta
What are the fast EEG signals?
Alpha, Beta
What is the frequency for delta waves
0 - 4 Hz
When are delta waves present and not present?
Alert individuals - not present, Stage 3 and stage 4 sleep - present.
What can be determined if delta waves are present in an awake patient?
Could be a pathological problem
What is the frequency for theta waves?
4 - 8 Hz
When are theta waves present?
During drowsiness
What can be determined if theta waves are present in an awake patient?
Could be a pathological problem
What is the frequency of alpha waves?
8 - 12 Hz
Where can alpha waves be seen?
Occipital lobe
What is the frequency of beta waves?
12 - 30 Hz
