Emery Flashcards
Photosynthesis
The process by which producers use trapped energy from the sun to make food.
Chlorophyll
A green pigment found in producers that traps the energy of the sun during photosynthesis.
Cellular Respritation
The process by which an organism obtains energy by breaking down high-energy foods, such as sugar and starch.
Food Chain
A model that show’s how food energy passes from organisms to organisms.
Food Web
A network of interconnected food chains in an ecosystem
Energy Flow
The transfer of energy that begins withthe sun and passes from one organism to the next.
Pyramid Of Numbers
A model used by ecoligists to show how many organisms are at each level in a food chain.
Top Consumer
The carnivore at the end of the food chain.
Carbon Cycle
A model showing how carbon is used and reused through-out ecosystems
Water Cycle
the continuous movement of water through the enviroment, the water cycle consists of evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation.
Evaporation
The process in which a liquid changes into a gas or vapor. For example, liquid water evaporates to become vapour water.
Transpiration
The process in which water that is taken in through a plant’s roots evaporates from the plant’s leaves, stem, and flowers.
Condensation
The process in which a gas or vapor changes in state to become a liquid. For example water vapour condenses into liquid water.
Precipitation
The process in which the tiny droplets inside clouds combine to form large drops which fall to earth as rain sleet, snow or hail. Also, the water that falls to earth as rain, sleet, snow or hail.
Ground Water
The water contained in earth’s crust
