Alice Flashcards
food web
a network of interconnected food chains in an ecosystem 먹이 그물
food chain
A model that shows how food energy passes from organism to organism 사슬
pyramid of numbers
a model used by ecologists to show how many organisms are at each level in a food chain; there are many producers at the bottom of a pyramid 개체수피라미드
energy flow
the transfer of energy that begins with the sun and passes from one 에너지 흐름
photosynthes
producers use the trapped energy from the sun to make food 광합성
chlorophyll
A green pigment found in producers that traps the energy of sun during photosynthesis 엽록소
cellular respiration
the process by which an organism obtains energy by braking down high-energy foods, such as sugar and starch 세포호흡
top consumer
the carnivore at the end of a food chain
carbon cycle
A model showing how carbon is used and re-used through out ecosystems
water cycle
the continuous movement of water through the environment; the water cycle consists of evaporation, transpiration, condensation, and precipitation
evaporation
the process in which a liquid changes into a gas or vapor; for example, liquid water evaporates to become water vapor
transpiration
the process in which water that is taken in through a plant’s roots evaporates from the plant’s leaves, stem, and flowers
condensation
the process in which a gas or vapor changes in state to become a liquid; for example, water vapor condenses into liquid water
precipitation
the process in which the tiny droplets inside clouds combine to form large drops which fall to earth as rain, sleet, snow, or hail; also, the the water ( in liquid or solid state) that falls to earth as rain, sleet, snow, or hail
ground water
the water contained in earth’s crust
