Emergency Procudures Flashcards
What is the spin recovery procedure
- Kill power
- Neutralize ailerons
- Apply and hold full rudder in opposite direction of spin
- Nose down
- Hold until rotation stops
- Return to level flight
What can cause rough engine operation
- Carburetor icing
- Spark plug fouling
- Magneto malfunction
- Low oil pressure
How do you fix carburetor icing
- Apply full throttle
- Pull open carburetor heat
- Wait till engine runs smoothly
- Return to appropriate power settings
What is the indication for carb ice
a gradual drop in engine RPM and eventual engine roughness
What is a the symptoms of a spark plug fouling how do you confirm this
A slight engine roughness. It can be confirmed by tuning the ignition to either left or right. An obvious drop in power on a signal ignition can be a sign of spark plug fouling
How do you fix spark plug fouling
- Lean the mixture
- Wait
If the problem does not clear up try a richer mixture - If there is no improvement go to nearest airport it’s the ignition in both
What are the symptoms of magneto malfunction.
Sudden engine roughness.
How do you fix magneto malfunction
- Switch from both to left or right on the ignition to confirm what magneto is malfunctioning
- Select a different power setting
- Enrich the mixture
- Check if able to continue on both magnetos is possible
- If not switch to the good magneto and go to the nearest airport
If a loss of oil pressure is accompanied by normal oil temperature what is the Likely cause
The oil pressure gage or relief valve is malfunctioning.
Is a leak in the line to the gage usually cause for an immediate precautionary landing
No but a landing at the nearest airport is advisable
If a loss in oil pressure is accompanied by a rise in oil temperature what is the procedure
- Prepare for engine failure
- Reduce engine power
- Select a forced landing field
- Use only minimum power to reach the touchdown spot
What is the procedure for excessive charge in ammeter
- Master off
- Master on
- If Over voltage light illuminates again
- Terminate flight
What is the procedure if the ammeter shows discharge
- Alternator off
- Nonessential electronics off
- Terminate flight
What is the procedure for an electrical fire
- Master off
- Electronics and switches off
- Close vents
- Use fire extinguisher
- Vent the cabin
If power is required after - Master on
- Circuit breakers check (don’t reset)
- Switches on one at a time as required
What is the procedure for a cabin fire
- Master off
- Close vents
- Use fire extinguisher
- Ventilate cabin
- land as soon as possible
