Engine fire during start

(Overprimed Engine)

A

Continue cranking!

If engine starts:

Power 1700 RPM for a few minutes then shut down.

If it doesn’t start:

  1. Throttle full OPEN
  2. Mixture to IDLE/CUTOFF
  3. Continue cranking
  4. Fuel pump and fuel shutoff valve to OFF.
  5. Pull out checklist.

In Flight Engine Fire

A
  1. Kill everything.
  2. Mixture to IDLE/CUTOFF. (turns off engine).
  3. Fuel shutoff valve to OFF (pulled out).
  4. Fuel pump switch to OFF.
  5. Master switch to OFF.
  6. Pitch nose down to get 100 knots.
  7. Open windows.
  8. Checklist.

  3. Fuel selector to BOTH.
  4. Fuel pump to ON.
  5. Mixture to RICH.
  6. Magnetos to START then BOTH.

Engine Failure Immediately AFTER takeoff

A

ABCs.

  • Pick a field within a 60 degree window.
  • Don’t hit anything with the cabin.
  • Don’t turn around under 1000 feet.
    1. FLAPS full down.
    2. Airspeed of 60 knots with Flaps DOWN.
    3. Airspeed of 65 knots with Flaps UP.
    4. Turn everything off, including MIXTURE.
    5. Unlatch door.

A

Dialog. ATC or 121.5. Squawk 7700. Inform of location.

Everybody Ready. Communicate with passengers.
Seatbelts. Door unlatched. Run away from aircraft.
