14
Q

What should the pilot do if he experiences a complete loss of tail rotor in forward flight?

A

Reduce Power by lowering collective.

Adjust airspeed to 50-60 kts.

Use left lateral cyclic in combination with collective pitch to limit left side slip.

If possible twist throttle to idle position once landing area is selected and perform a normal autorotation.

Plan to land with little to know forward speed.

15
Q

What is the emergency procedure for an electrical fire on the ground?

A
Pull mixture to idle cutoff.
Pull Full valve.
Turn battery switch off.
Turn Alternator to off.

16
Q

What is the procedure if you experience a fire at altitude?

A

Maintain airspeed and rotor RPM…be prepared to perform full autorotation.

Immediately perform power-on landing to suitable area.

If time permits: turn off battery, and alternator.

Once landed: close throttle, pull mixture, pull fuel valve, exit aircraft.

17
Q

What are the factors you should consider when selecting a landing area in an autorotation?

A

Is the area within the gliding distance of the helicopter?
What is wind direction and speed?
What is the surface condition?
Are there any obstructions around the landing area?

18
Q

If the Rotor RPMS get too high what is the appropriate correction?

A

Gradually pull collective to reduce Rotor RPMs…reduce collective once desired RPM is achieved.

19
Q

If the RPMs are two low, what are the two primary corrective actions?

A

Apply aft cyclic to increase load factor or enter coordinated turn.
