Emergency Procedures Flashcards
Land Immediately
Definition
Self Explanatory
Land As Soon As Possible
Definition
Emergency conditions are urgent and require landing at the nearest landing site at which a safe landing can be made.
Land As Soon As Practicable
Definition
Emergency conditions are less urgent and in the pilot’s judgement, he may proceed to the nearest airfield where he can expect appropriate assistance.
Continue Flight
Definition
Continue flight as planned, Repair at the destination according to the maintenance manual.
Gong
Generated when red warning light appears
Continuous Tone
310Hz when Nr <360 RPM
285Hz when max take-off limit exceeded:
- after 1.5sec delay if power remains in transient range
- immediately when transient limit exceeded
In addition, from VEMD:
- immediately when max transient rating is or will be exceeded during fast power increase
- Collective - reduce
- Engine parameters - check
Intermittent Tone
310Hz when Nr >410 RPM
- Collective - increase
Autorotation Over Water
Ditch with min forward speed (IAS <30kts) and rate of descent
- Collective - maintain
- Doors jettison handles - PULL-UP
- Rotor brake - Apply
Abandon aircraft once rotor stop
Hover OGE
- Collective - Full low pitch
When Nr stops decreasing -
- Cyclic - Forward
- Auto procedure - apply
In-Flight Relight
- Engine start selector - OFF
- Fuel Pump - ON
- Engine start selector - ON
Relight will run automatically when Ng < 17%
After relight -
- Fuel Pump - OFF
At least 1000ft is necessary to complete procedure following flame-out
HYDR light - SINGLE HYDRAULIC ONLY
HIGE, Takeoff, Final
If landing in 30sec is possible -
- Land normally
- Twist grip - IDLE
- Collective - LOCK
- Eng start selector - OFF
HYDR light - SINGLE HYDRAULIC ONLY
In Flight
- Angle of bank < 30deg
- Avoid abrupt maneuvers
- IAS 40-60kts
- Collective HYD Cut-Off Switch - OFF
Land As Soon As Possible
Approach and Landing - 40-60kts, clear, flat area into the wind, no hover, slow running landing at 10kts. Do Not hover/taxi
After landing:
Collective - LOCK
Twist Grip - IDLE
Shutdown
Flight Control Hard-Over or Servo Jam
SINGLE HYDRAULIC ONLY
- Symptoms
- Hover IGE, Takeoff, Final
Hardover - uncommanded movements of 1 or 2 flight controls
Servojam - higher than normal force to move flight controls
If immediate landing is possible
LAND IMMEDIATELY
After landing
1. Hyd Cut Off Switch - OFF
2. Shutdown
Flight Control Hard-Over or Servo Jam
SINGLE HYDRAULIC ONLY
- Symptoms
- In Flight
Hardover - uncommanded movements of 1 or 2 flight controls
Servojam - higher than normal force to move flight controls
- IAS - 40-60kts
- Hyd Cut Off Switch - OFF and apply HYDR procedure
Land As Soon As Possible
Note - heavier loads at higher airspeeds
Loss of TR Control
SINGLE HYDRAULIC
Stuck pedals or fixed pitch
- IAS - 70kts
- HYD TEST or ACCU TEST - ON (load compensator depressurizes)
After 5 seconds - - HYD TEST or ACCU TEST - Reset to OFF position
Perform running landing - right crosswind, nose right, right of landing area
Two functions of the HORN
SINGLE HYDRAULIC ONLY
- Nr <306 RPM
- Loss of Hydraulic pressure
Loss of Hydraulic Pressure - HYD1 light
DUAL HYDRAULIC ONLY
Avoid abrupt maneuvers
Bank angle <30 deg
IAS < 110kts
Land As Soon As Practicable
Note - One remaining circuit allows continued safe flight and landing
Caution - Do not press the ACCU TST pushbutton as this would discharge the law load compensator and right pedal loads may be significant
Loss of Hydraulic Pressure - HYD2 light
DUAL HYDRAULIC ONLY
Avoid abrupt maneuvers
Bank angle <30 deg
IAS < 110kts
Land As Soon As Practicable
Note - One remaining circuit allows continued safe flight and landing
Tail rotor control hydraulic power lost
Caution - Do not press the ACCU TST pushbutton as this would discharge the law load compensator and right pedal loads may be significant
SERVO light
DUAL HYDRAULIC ONLY
Jamming of a Distributor Valve on MR
Land As Soon As Practicable
LIMIT light
DUAL HYDRAULIC ONLY
MR servo unit max load reached
Max rotor head stress reached or extreme longitudinal control position
- Collective - reduce power
- Cyclic - reduce speed or load factor
Continue Flight
Yaw Servo Slide Valve Seizure - Hover
DUAL HYDRAULIC ONLY
If no movement about yaw axis:
1. Hydraulic cut-off switch - OFF
2. Land normally
If yaw axis rotation:
1. Hydraulic cut-off switch - OFF
2. Control Yaw
3. Land normally
Yaw Servo Slide Valve Seizure - Cruise Flight
DUAL HYDRAULIC ONLY
- Airspeed - Reduce 40-60kts
- Hydraulic cut-off switch - OFF
- Normal Approach and Landing
Conditions when Yaw Servo Slide Valve Seizure
Stuck Open v Closed
DUAL HYDRAULIC ONLY
Seizure in the closed position:
- Stuck pedal
Seizure in the open position:
- pedal will travel by itself, full deflection
- pedal will be stuck until the corrective action is taken
Parameter Off-line
VEMD
Parameter value is not displayed on the corresponding VEMD screen
