Q

ABORTED TAKEOFF

A

*1. POWER levers — IDLE/REVERSE as required.
*2. Brakes — As required.

Prior to departing the prepared surface:
*3. CONDITION levers — FUEL CUTOFF (PM).
*4. PROP levers — FEATHER (PM).

After aircraft stops:
*5. Firewall valves — CLOSED.
*6. Engine fire extinguisher — As required (PM).
*7. AUX BATT switch — OFF.
*8. Gangbar — Off.

NOTE - The decision to abort or to continue the takeoff rests with the Aircraft
Commander. The takeoff abort maneuver is made by the pilot flying, who
announces, “ABORT” and executes the abort procedure.

WARNING - In the event of a malfunction affecting the ability to control engine power,
bringing the POWER levers to IDLE prior to cutting off fuel may accentuate
yaw and result in departure from the runway. In this case, consideration
should be given to moving both CONDITION levers to FUEL CUTOFF
prior to reducing POWER levers.

WARNING - Single-engine reversing must be applied cautiously or loss of directional
control may result. Use extreme caution if takeoff surface is not hard and
dry.

ENGINE FAILURE AFTER TAKEOFF

A

If an engine failure occurs after takeoff, proceed as follows:

*1. Power — Maximum allowable.
*2. Gear — UP.
*3. Airspeed — Accelerate to Vxse or Vyse.

†*4. Propeller (inoperative engine) — Confirm auto feather or FEATHER (PM).
*5. Flaps — UP.
*6. Emergency Shutdown Checklist — Perform.

Note
* Maximum climb performance can be achieved by raising the failed engine 3 to 5° up and displacing the slip skid indicator one-half to three-quarters of a ball width toward the good engine.
* If the auto feather system is being used, retarding the POWER lever below approximately 90 percent N1 before the feathering sequence is complete will deactivate the auto feather circuit and prevent automatic feathering.

Q

Engine Fire

A

*1. Confirm fire.

If fire exists:
*2. Emergency Shutdown Checklist — Perform.

Illumination of the FIRE warning light is usually the first indication of an engine compartment fire. Confirm, if possible, that fire actually exists by checking engine instruments and nacelles. Even if no secondary indications are observed, consideration should be given to performing the Emergency Shutdown Checklist in shutdown of the affected engine.

Q

Primary Governor Failure/Malfunction

A

If propeller rpm is out of the normal governing range, proceed as follows:
*1. PROP lever – Attempt to adjust to normal operating range.

If normal rpm limits are restored, continue operation. If normal governing range cannot be maintained, as soon as practicable accomplish the following:
†2. POWER lever (affected engine) — Idle.
†3. PROP lever — FEATHER (PM).
If propeller fails to feather:
†4. CONDITION lever — FUEL CUTOFF (PM).
5.AUTO FEATHER — Hold to TEST until propeller feathers (PM).
6.Emergency shutdown checklist — As required.

Note
If the propeller feathers, consider leaving engine running to provide generator power.

Q

The windshear escape procedure should be initiated if unexpected, sustained deviations from target
conditions in excess of the following occur:

A

a. ±15 KIAS.
b. ±500 fpm of vertical speed.
c. ±5° of pitch attitude.
d. ±1 dot glideslope displacement (approach only).
e. Unusual power required on approach.

Q

Windshear Escape Procedure

A

*1. Autopilot — Disengage.
*2. Power — Maximum.
*3. Wings — Level.
*4. PROP Levers — Full Forward.
*5. Pitch — Rotate toward 15 degrees up.
*6. Configuration — Do not change.

Steps *1 through *3 should be completed simultaneously in an expeditious and smooth manner. Delay could result in terrain impact; abrupt control movements may result in over control/loss of control of aircraft and vertigo.

WARNING- * Move the POWER levers aggressively to the forward stops. PM should
maintain POWER lever position. The additional performance gained by exceeding engine limits may give the margin needed for survival.
* Do not stop or delay for analysis. Rotate smoothly at 3° per second until reaching 15° nose up. Stop rotation if stall warning sounds or initial buffet occurs.
* If ground contact is imminent, rotate past the 15° target attitude and increase pitch to the lower limit of the stall warning threshold. Use the upper limit for the pitch attitude until terrain clearance is ensured. The stall warning
provides 4 to 12 knots of stall protection.
* Do not change aircraft configuration until terrain clearance is ensured. PM shall call out continuous radio altitude trend (e.g., “CLIMBING . . . 200 FEET . . . DESCENDING . . . 150 FEET . . .”).

Note
Advise ATC of any windshear encounter.

Q

Single-Engine Waveoff/Missed Approach

A

*1. Power — Maximum allowable.
*2. PROP lever – Full Forward.
*3. Pitch — Establish positive rate of climb (7 to 10° up).
*4. Airspeed — VXSE or VYSE.
*5. Gear — UP.
*6. Flaps — UP.

NOTE - If flaps are DOWN, it is recommended they be raised in increments; raise the flaps to the APPROACH position, allow airspeed to increase to at least VSSE, ensure a positive rate of climb is established, then raise the flaps to the UP position.

17
Q

Abnormal Start

A

*1. CONDITION lever — FUEL CUTOFF (note ITT decrease).
*2. ENGINE START switch — OFF.
In the event of a hot start or a hung start:
*3. ENGINE START switch — STARTER ONLY (for the remainder of the 40 seconds).
Do not attempt another engine start until ITT is below 300 °C.
In the event that there is no light off after the CONDITION lever is brought to LOW IDLE, wait 60 seconds, then:
4.ENGINE START switch — STARTER ONLY (minimum 15 seconds, maximum 40 seconds).

Monitor ITT during normal start. If the ITT rate of increase appears likely to exceed 1,000 °C, no rise in ITT is evident within 10 seconds after selecting LOW IDLE with the CONDITION lever, -F- CHIP DETECT light illuminates, or N1 does not accelerate normally to low idle, proceed as follows:

CAUTION - Starter is limited to 40 seconds on, 60 seconds off, 40 seconds on, 60 seconds
off, 40 seconds on, then 30 minutes off.

18
Q

Emergency Shutdown on Deck

A

*1. Aircraft - Stop
*2. Parking Brake - Set
*3. CONDITION Lever(s) - FUEL CUTOFF (PM)
