Head, neck, face Chest Abdomen and flanks Extremities Inspect posterior surfaces
If patient comes in unconscious?
CAB
Circulation - check for pulse then continue
Heatstroke
cannot control temperature
medical emergency
Heatstroke manifestations
core temp rises within 10-15 min above 105 hot dry skin altered mental status - confusion hypotension tachycardia and tachypnea
Heatstroke tx
Stabilize ABCs
rapidly lower core temp
monitor for dysrhythmias
Administer O2
Frostbite
Tissue freezing and leads to ice crystals in tissues and cells
Frostbite manifestations
Skins appears waxy pale yellow to blue
feels crunchy and frozen
tingling, numbness, or burning
Hypothermia
Core temp lower than 95
Acids & Alkali
immediate dilution (water and milk)
induced vomiting contraindicated
gastric lavage within 1 hr of ingestion
Bleaches
same as acids
NSAIDs
activated charcoal
gastric lavage
supportive care
ESI 1
unstable
cardiac arrest, intubated trauma, overdose with bradypnea, severe resp distress
ESI 2
threatened
chest pain from ischemia, multiple trauma unless responsive
ESI 3
stable
abd pain, gynecologic disorder unless in severe distress, hip fx in older pt
