When must preflight serviceability checks take place?
Who must you notify for unserviceable or missing? When?
- Prior to passenger boarding
- Reported to CSM, immediately. (CSM reports to Flight Crew. FC consult Log and MEL list.)
Who is responsible for checking EE in the flight deck?

- Aid in fire fighting, pry open panels, clearing obstruction in a crash, basic survival
Heat Resistant Gloves
Preflight Serviceability, Location, Operation of Use,, Precautions?
- Present
- Flight Deck and rear of cabin* (A/C dependent)
- Protect arms and hands from heat and fire
- Avoid using with a fire extinguisher as gloves will effect dexterity
BCF Extinguishers
Preflight Serviceability, Operation of Use, Duration, Precautions?
- Check red plastic disc is intact in rear of handle
- PASS, Push catch up, Aim at base of fire, Squeeze handle, Sweep the flames.
- 10 seconds
- 1.5-2m range, hold within 60 degrees of vertical, avoid metal contact with wires, wear PBE, keep distance, not as effective on metal fires (class D), on FD Oxygen should be set to 100%.
Essex PBE
Preflight Serviceability, Operation of Use, Duration, Precautions?
- Tamper prevention integrity seal is intact. Check humidity indicator is blue in color.
- Unfold hood, grasp cylinders securely whilst facing each other, activate by sharply snapping cylinders away to trigger flow of oxygen, green light will activate on service indicator. Don hood promptly by placing hands inside neck seal and spreading apart.
- 15 minutes usage, NOTE: Oxygen will flow for 8-10 minutes. Remove when red light flashes on End of Service Indicator.
- Do not remove near sparks or flame. Discard if no audible hissing, hood collapse or red light indicator flashes. Remove or adjust jewelry, glasses, scarf and anything that may interfere with the neck seal.
Essex PBE: How should it be disposed of?
- Placed in a lavatory bin (even if not used)
- Lavatory must be locked and regularly monitored for remainder of flight
*Cabin Log entry must be made.
How do you know if the waste bin extinguisher has been set off?
What actions must follow?
The silver dot on the temperature sensitive indicator placard will turn BLACK when exposed to high temperatures?
Lavatory must be blocked off and cannot be used for remainder of flight
Fixed Oxygen System/PSU (A330)
Activation? Duration? Shut Off? Check flow?
- Pulling ONE mask from PSU will activate oxygen to ALL masks in that UNIT
- 15 minute minimum
- Can NOT be shut off
- In line flow indicator registers GREEN
Portable Oxygen
Preflight serviceability (Single and Multi) ?, Capacity? Duration? Precautions?
Single = pressure gauge needle BETWEEN the GREEN band and FULL
Multi = pressure gauge needle IN the RED band

Avoid bumping or dropping, ignition sources 4m away, avoid contact with oil and grease, remove makeup from person, secure cylinder, fit strap when moving around cabin.
Portable Oxygen

How often should a passenger be checked?
What PSI should be left in the cylinder?
Single: Oronasal mask plugged in. Open shut off valve fully until number ‘4’ is visible. Check green flow indicator becomes visible in the tube. Fit masks around nose and mouth.
Multi: Select Flo rate by plugging mask into appropriate outlet. Open shut off valve fully (anti clockwise), then turn back half. Check green flow indicator becomes visible in the tube. Fit masks around nose and mouth.
Every 15 minutes

EROS Portable Oxygen
Serviceability? Capacity? Identified By? Operation? Duration?
- Pressure gauge needle in the RED band
- 310L
- Identified by yellow band around the top brass fitting
- Disconnect mask from a/c system (twist and pull bayonet fitting). Plug into EROS outlet. Open shut off valve fully (anticlockwise) then turn back half. Oxygen will be provided on demand.
- Max 15 minutes depending on workload
Portable Therapeutic Mask

Fit over mouth and nose.
Not to be used as smoke masks due to holes.
After use place mask in sick bag and return to original stowage. Log.
Oxygen Release Tool

- Used to open PSU if fails to automatically deploy. Push pointed end into access hole or insert flat end at side of unit
Laerdal Pocket Mask

Put on gloves. Place mask over nose and mouth. More effective when connected to high flow oxygen. Do not delay rescue breathing.

Provide crew protection when handling substances of a dangerous, chemical or infectious nature.
Passenger Restraint Kit
Serviceability? Contents? Precautions?
Present. Seal is intact.
1 x instruction card. 1 x cutter. 6 x flexi-cuffs.
Maximum restraint for landing = flexi cuffs applied to wrists and passenger seatbelt.
What are the distress Signaling Aids and their uses/operation?
- Heliograph. Reflective sunlight to search for craft.
- Sea Marker Dye Pack. Visible for up to 2 hours. Pull in anchor to increase drift.
- Skyblazer Flare. Hold muzzle away. Press on top until flare drops down, pull flare to lock in place. Unscrew cap. Hold flare straight up with face turned away. Pull chain to activate.
Can you fit an adult life jacket to a child? If so, how?
When are lifejackets inflated?

Place over head, clip buckle, tighten strap, secure excess strap in loop and tuck into back of waist strap.

- LED indicator on ELT will flash AMBER every 2 sec. LED will change to GREEn when GPS position has been detected by the internal receiver.
Beacon Use on Land

- Unfasten water soluble tape to release antenna
- Add one pouch of salt and 1 Litre of liquid to attached bag. Lower base of beacon into bag to cover vent holed with liquid.

- Turn ELT dial to XMT
- Flashing LED visible after 10 sec.
406SG (same as water)
- Release antenna from stowed position under foam flotation ring. Place in upright position.
- Pull out toggle switch (on top) and set to ON position.
- LED indicator on ELT will flash AMBER every 2 sec. LED will change to GREEn when GPS position has been detected by the internal receiver.

DME Torch

Present. Safety-wired or plastic seal. Red blinking light.
Illuminates automatically when removed from stowage. Cab be turned off by replacing torch, or unscrewing and and unplugging connectors.

FS Megaphone

Hold with one hand. Press trigger button. Speak into microphone.
Reduce injury during removal from aircraft by taking care when sliding.

Ring pin and seal intact. Pressure needle in the GREEN band.

PASS. Pull out ring. Aim at base. Squeeze lever. Sweep flame.
Same as BCF* - O2, metal, oxygen, scatter, class D etc.
Pulse Oxygen Cylinder
Serviceability? Capacity? Duration? Operation? Precautions?
Pressure gauge needle reads a minimum of 1500psi.
Mask is attached to the cylinder

Switch ON. Check LED illuminated. Fit mask. Check pax every 15 min. 100PSI remain when turned OFF.
Precautions - Same as other O2.
Flashlight (Torch)

Present. Tamper seal intact. Push-to-test switch and check for a green flash.

ACR Megaphone
Serviceability? Operation?
Present. Audible click. Squeeze and hold the handle until the green LED illuminates.
Hold with one hand. Place to mouth. Squeeze handle, speak slowly and clearly. Volume can be adjusted.
