BCF Extinguishers

Preflight Serviceability, Operation of Use, Duration, Precautions?

  • Check red plastic disc is intact in rear of handle
  • PASS, Push catch up, Aim at base of fire, Squeeze handle, Sweep the flames.
  • 10 seconds
  • 1.5-2m range, hold within 60 degrees of vertical, avoid metal contact with wires, wear PBE, keep distance, not as effective on metal fires (class D), on FD Oxygen should be set to 100%.

Essex PBE

Preflight Serviceability, Operation of Use, Duration, Precautions?

A
  • Tamper prevention integrity seal is intact. Check humidity indicator is blue in color.
  • Unfold hood, grasp cylinders securely whilst facing each other, activate by sharply snapping cylinders away to trigger flow of oxygen, green light will activate on service indicator. Don hood promptly by placing hands inside neck seal and spreading apart.
  • 15 minutes usage, NOTE: Oxygen will flow for 8-10 minutes. Remove when red light flashes on End of Service Indicator.
  • Do not remove near sparks or flame. Discard if no audible hissing, hood collapse or red light indicator flashes. Remove or adjust jewelry, glasses, scarf and anything that may interfere with the neck seal.

Single = pressure gauge needle BETWEEN the GREEN band and FULL
Multi = pressure gauge needle IN the RED band

Avoid bumping or dropping, ignition sources 4m away, avoid contact with oil and grease, remove makeup from person, secure cylinder, fit strap when moving around cabin.

How often should a passenger be checked?

What PSI should be left in the cylinder?

A

Single: Oronasal mask plugged in. Open shut off valve fully until number ‘4’ is visible. Check green flow indicator becomes visible in the tube. Fit masks around nose and mouth.

Multi: Select Flo rate by plugging mask into appropriate outlet. Open shut off valve fully (anti clockwise), then turn back half. Check green flow indicator becomes visible in the tube. Fit masks around nose and mouth.

Every 15 minutes

  • Pressure gauge needle in the RED band
  • 310L
  • Identified by yellow band around the top brass fitting
  • Disconnect mask from a/c system (twist and pull bayonet fitting). Plug into EROS outlet. Open shut off valve fully (anticlockwise) then turn back half. Oxygen will be provided on demand.
  • Max 15 minutes depending on workload

  1. Heliograph. Reflective sunlight to search for craft.
  2. Sea Marker Dye Pack. Visible for up to 2 hours. Pull in anchor to increase drift.
  3. Skyblazer Flare. Hold muzzle away. Press on top until flare drops down, pull flare to lock in place. Unscrew cap. Hold flare straight up with face turned away. Pull chain to activate.

- Flashing LED visible after 10 sec.

406SG (same as water)
- Release antenna from stowed position under foam flotation ring. Place in upright position.

Present. Audible click. Squeeze and hold the handle until the green LED illuminates.

Hold with one hand. Place to mouth. Squeeze handle, speak slowly and clearly. Volume can be adjusted.
