emergency checklists Flashcards
engine fire during start
starter … crank engine mixture … IDLE throttle … OPEN fuel pump … OFF fuel selector … OFF abandon if fire continues
engine power loss during takeoff
if sufficient runway remains: land straight ahead
if insufficient runway remains: maintain safe airspeed, shallow turns, flaps as needed
if sufficient altitude has been gained:
maintain safe airspeed
fuel selector … SWITCH to tank containing fuel
fuel pump … CHECK ON
mixture … CHECK RICH
primer … CHECK LOCKED
if power is not regained, proceed with power off landing
engine power loss in flight
fuel selector … SWITCH to tank containing fuel
fuel pump … ON
mixture … RICH
carb heat … ON
engine gauges … CHECK (for indication of cause of loss of power)
primer … CHECK LOCKED
if power is restored: carb heat OFF, fuel pump OFF
if power not restored: prepare for power off landing
power off landing
located suitable field and navigate to it
73 best glide speed, 63 when field can be reached
touchdowns should be made a lowest possible airspeed with full flaps
when committed to landing:
ignition … OFF
master switch … OFF
fuel selector … OFF
mixture … IDLE
seat belts … TIGHT
door … OPEN
electrical fire in flight (smoke in cabin)
master switch … OFF
vents … OPEN
cabin heat … OFF
land as soon as practicable
engine fire in flight
fuel selector … OFF throttle … CLOSED mixture … IDLE fuel pump … OFF heater … OFF defroster … OFF proceed with power off landing
loss of oil pressure
land as possible and investigate cause
prepare for power off landing
loss of fuel pressure
fuel pump … ON
fuel selector… CHECK on full tank
high oil temperature
land at nearest airport and investigate the problem
prepare for power off landing
electrical failures
???
electrical overload with interlocked BAT and ALT switch operation
electrical overload with separate BAT and ALT switch operation
SPIN RECOVERY
throttle … IDLE
ailerons … NEUTRAL
rudder … FULL OPPOSITE to direction of rotation
control wheel … FULL FORWARD
rudder … NEUTRAL when rotation stops
control wheel … as required to fly smoothly
open door
if both latches are open, door will be slightly open and airspeeds slightly reduced
to close door in flight:
airspeed 89 KTS
cabin vents … CLOSE
storm window … OPEN
if upper latch is open … LATCH
if side latch is open … pull arm rest while latching door handle
if both latches are open … latch side first, then top latch
engine roughness
carb heat … OFF if roughness continues after 1 min: carb heat … OFF mixture … adjust for max smoothness fuel pump … ON fuel selector … SWITCH tanks engine gauges … CHECK magnetos … L then R then BOTH … if operation is satisfactory on either one, continue on that magneto at reduced power and full rich mixture to first airport prepare for power off landing
