How long does a PBE last?
15 minutes
How do you know the PBE is no longer useable?
Indicator light flashes red and green the last minute and the hood will start to collapse
How close does a PBE have to be to a fire extinguisher?
Within 3 feet
Class A Fire and how to extinguish?
Ordinary combustible material such as wood, rubber, paper
Extinguished with water/halon
Class B Fire and how to extinguish?
Flammable liquids, oils, grease, gas
Extinguished with halon
Class C Fire and how to extinguish?
Energized electrical equipment such as motors, galley equipment, or avionics
Extinguished with halon
Class D Fire and how to extinguish?
Combustible metals such as magnesium, sodium, lithium, ect
Extinguished with foam
Does the Emergency Flashlight cradle charge the flashlight?
Can you use the Emergency Flashlight for you preflight?
No
No
How do you know the Emergency flashlight is good?
red blinking light
What is the code on the EMK? ________ Who can use an EMK?
0911, MD or Doctor the FA checks credentials
Who is trained on the AED?
FA, must notify crew if used
What exits are used in a water ditching?
Over wing exits and crew escape hatch (these are the high exits – above water level)
Can Emergency Exits be opened from inside and outside the aircraft?
Yes
What designation is given on the exterior of the aircraft to designate emergency exits?
Different color paint around the exits on the exterior
What is Min Fuel?
Min Fuel is when anticipated fuel upon landing will be less than 30 min. Will declare min fuel as soon as fuel calculated to be min fuel.
What is Emergency Fuel?
Emergency Fuel is when the anticipated fuel remaining upon landing will be 20 min or less. Pilots will declare emergency fuel as soon as calculated. This gives priority handling.
What is a Yellow Level Emergency?
Yellow level emergency is one that would require a diversion and/or a priority landing but not be of a nature that would prepare the cabin for possible emergency evacuation.
What is a Red Level Emergency?
Red Level emergency requires the cabin be prepared for possible emergency evacuation; includes bracing.
Crew Incapacitation is determined how?
2 Communication Rule
Where are crew lifejackets found? _______________ When do you inflate your lifejacket?
Under their respective jumpseats or cockpit seat, inflate outside of the aircraft
How should the Quick Don Oxygen Mask be set for flight?
The red lever should be pushed in to 100% position. Set and ready if needed quickly
Explain the difference between normal and 100% lever positions on the Quick don oxygen?
Normal is oxygen mixed with ambient air, 100% is 100% oxygen (ex: decompression, smoke in cockpit)
Explain the difference between 100% on the lever and Emergency Flow?
100% is full oxygen on demand (as you draw breath in 100% oxygen is supplied) , in Emergency flow it is 100% forced oxygen (the flow is continuous). The emergency flow is for incapacitation – forced oxygen.
In an emergency situation the first rule of thumb is?
Fly the airplane
Anytime ARFF is needed or called you must
declare an emergency
All in-flight engine failures or shutdowns require what?
Maintenance write-up and a debriefing even if the engine was subsequently restarted successfully.
When receiving any smoke indication, flight crews accomplish any
__________________ that may be required. And if possible a ________________ inspection is conducted in conjunction with the appropriate emergency checklist
Emergency Checklist Card, visual
Can a dispatcher declare an emergency?
Yes

hours following an engine failure diversion.

What is the acronym and what is required when briefing a flight attendant of an emergency?
NASR,
Nature of the Emergency
Amount of time the FA has to prepare the cabin for landing
Special instructions
Repeat Instructions (verifies message received)
If there is a medical emergency on board, who can the pilots contact to assist in the medical emergency?
STAT MD, the pilot will be the middle man passing information back and forth
If there is an incapacitated FA, can one pilot go into cabin to assist the incapacitated FA? Why?
No, this could be result of an overt act by another person onboard. Pilots must remain in the flight deck.
When inspecting the PBE if the button is protruding or the humidity indicator is PINK the PBE is useable. True or False
False, this signals the seal is poor and the PBE is not good
Donning of the PBE must be completed within _______________ of activation.
15 seconds
How far does the Halon extinguisher spray? How long does it last?
10-12 feet, 10-12 seconds
