Emergencies Flashcards
Hot Start
If EGT climbs rapidly through 750 degrees C:
1. Throttle affected engine-OFF
Planing Link Failure
If detected after touchdown and flyaway airspeed available:
1. Go-around
If flyaway airspeed not available:
1. EMERG BRK handle-PULL TO DETENT (if required)
2. HOOK handle-DOWN (if required)
Brake Failure/ Emergency Brakes
If detected after touchdown and flyaway airspeed available:
1. Go around
If brake failure occurs at slow speed or flyaway airspeed not available:
1. Brakes-RELEASE
2. EMERG BRK handle-PULL TO DETENT
3. Brakes-APPLY gradually
Loss of Directional Control During Takeoff of Landing
If detected after touchdown and flyaway airspeed available:
1. Go around
If flyaway airspeed not available:
1. EMERG BRK handle-PULL TO DETENT (if required)
2. HOOK handle-DOWN (if required)
If NWS failure suspected:
3. Paddle switch-PRESS
Loss of Thrust in Takeoff or Landing Configuration
- Throttle-MAX
- FLAP switch-HALF
- Maintain on-speed AOA and balance flight
- LDG GEAR handle-UP (if required)
- EMERG JET button-PUSH (if required)
OCF Recovery Procedures
- Control-RELEASE, FEET OFF RUDDERS, SPEEDBRAKE IN
If still out of control: - Throttles-IDLE
- Altitude, AOA, airspeed, and yaw rate-CHECK
If command arrow present: - Lateral stick-FULL WITH ARROW
When command arrow removed: - Lateral stick-SMOOTHLY NEUTRAL
When recovery indicated by AOA and yaw rate tones removed, side forces subsided, and airspeed accelerating above 180 knots: - Recover
Passing 6,000 ft AGL, dive recovery not initiated: - Eject
Adverse Physiological Symptoms
- Initiate controlled descent to below 10,000 feet CABIN altitude
- Control rate and depth of breathing (approximately one breath every 5 seconds)
When CABIN altitude below 10,000 feet: - Mask-OFF (affected cockpit)
- OXY FLOW knob-OFF (affected cockpit)
Low/No Mask Flow
If CABIN altitude above 10,000 feet:
- Emergency oxygen green ring(s)-PULL
- OXY FLOW knob(s)-OFF
Cabin Pressurization Failure (Ground)
- ECS MODE switch-OFF/RAM
2. CABIN TEMP knob-FULL COLD
Cabin Pressurization Failure (In Flight)
- Mask(s)-ON
2. Initiate controlled descent to below 18,000 feet MSL
Rapid Decompression
- Mask(s)-ON
- Initiate controlled descent to below 18,000 feet MSL
If rapid decompression results in CABIN altitude above 18,000 feet:
3, Emergency oxygen green ring(s)-PULL - OXY FLOW knob(s)-OFF
Smoke, Fumes, or Fire in Cockpit
- Mask(s)-ON
- Initiate controlled descent to below 18,000 feet MSL
- CABIN PRESS switch-RAM/DUMP (below 18,000 feet MSL if possible)
Abort
- Throttles-IDLE
- Speedbrake-AS DESIRED
- Brakes-APPLY
- Stick-AFT below 100 knots (if required)
- HOOK handle-DOWN (if required)
Loss of Thrust in Takeoff or Landing Configuration
- Throttle-MAX
- Flap switch-HALF
- Maintain on-speed AOA and balanced flight
- LDG GEAR handle-UP (if required)
- EMERG JETT button-PUSH (if required)
Emergency Catapult Flyaway
If flyaway airspeed available: 1. Throttles-MAX 2. Rudder-FULL AGAINST YAW/ROLL 3. EMERG JETT button-PUSH 4. Maintain 10 to 12 degrees pitch attitude with waterline symbol -Do not exceed 14 degrees AOA (AOA tone) If unable to arrest yaw/roll or stop settle: 5. Eject
