Emergence, Extubation Flashcards
1
Q
Unconsciousness vs Amnesia vs Analgesia
A
Unconsciousness: Being unaware of surroundings and what is happening around oneself
Amnesia: Inability to form memories
Analgesia: Diminished capacity to perceive painful stimuli
2
Q
Priming dose of muscle relaxants
A
Give 10% of intubating dose 1-3 minutes before the rest of the dose
3
Q
Reversal of neuromuscular blocking drugs (which receptors it inhibits and what effects it causes)
A
Cholinergic nicotinic receptors (anticholinersterase inhibitors), cause muscarinic side-effects
4
Q
Suture size used for skin closure
A
4-0 suture
5
Q
Extubation criteria
A
Awake Vital signs stable Reflexes intact (gag, swallow, cough) Reversal (TOF 4/4, strong handgrip, headlife >5 secs) Respiratory mechanics ABGs pH>7.3 PaCO2>50
