Embryology Flashcards
Morula
Solid ball of cells, formed after implantation
Blastula
From morula. Hallow ball of cells single layer thick. Contains blastocoel (fluid secreted by cells).
Two layer gastrula
“Inpocketing,” endoderm inside, ectoderm on exterior.
Three layer gastrula
Mesoderm forms between ectoderm and endoderm.
Formation and rearrangement of the three germ layers is known as gastrulations.
Ectoderm
Skin and sweat glands, eyes, hair, teeth, nervous system
Mesoderm
Musculoskeletal system, circulatory system, kidneys (excretory-bladder lining), gonads, dermis
Endoderm
Lining of digestive and respiratory tracts, lining of bladder, pancreas, and liver.
Chorion
Lines inside of egg shell, permits gas exchange
Allantois
Sac developed from digestive tract, carries out respiration and excretion, has many blood vessels
Amnion
Encloses amniotic fluid, watery environment for embryo
Yolk sac
Encloses yolk. Blood vessels in yolk transfer food to developing embryo.
