Embryology Flashcards
Where does fertilization occur?
Fallopian tube. The egg then migrates to the uterus and eventually embeds itself into the uterine wall by day 6. It is then termed a blastocyst.
Week 3: Gastrulation involves what?
Differentiation of the cell layers: Endoderm, Ectoderm, and Mesoderm.
Endoderm forms…
lining of GI and respiratory tract
Ectoderm forms…
Nervous system
Mesoderm forms…
44 somites become sclerotomes and myotomes which become skeletal muscles and axial skeleton.
What week does the cardiovascular system develop?
Week 3.
Week 3 nervous system development…
Notochord to ectoderm to neural plate to neural groove and neural folds to neural tube
Neural crest cells migrate to sides of neural tube (sensory ganglia, Schwann cells, meninges)
When does neural tube closure begin?
21 days and is completed by 28 days
