Embryology Flashcards
What part of the primitive embryo does the respiratory system develop from?
Ventral all of the foregut
What is the laryngeotracheal groove?
Early lung buds
Forms from foregut in 4th week before budding out
What happens by week 8 of development re respiratory system?
Lung buds almost completely branched out
How does the trachea develop in the embryo?
Branches out of the oesophagus
What is the laryngeotracheal groove covered in?
Mesoderm
What does the visceral pleurae develop from?
Splanchnic mesoderm
What does the parietal pleura develop from?
Somatic mesoderm
How do the pleura form around the lungs?
The lungs bud out and invade the pleural cavity
At what stage of gestation do the primitive lungs appear?
26 days
What happens during the pseudo glandular stage of development?
Setup of all pulmonary structures except those required for gas exchange
What happens in the canalicular stage of development?
Terminal bronchioles give rise to tubes that make up respiratory part of the lung
Differentiation of epithelium into different types of pneumocytes
What happens during the saccular stage od development?
Formation of alveolar sacs separated by primary septa
What happens in the alveolar stage of development?
Alveoli increase in number and then in size
What are 4 congenital respiratory conditions?
Respiratory distress syndrome- Surfactant deficiency
Accessory lobe- too much proliferation
Agenesis- lung hasn’t developed
Azygous vein invaginated into lung and lung grows around it
How many parts does the diaphragm develop from?
4
