embryology Flashcards
How many weeks long is the embryonic period?
8 weeks
When does the zygote form?
during fertilization
What happens in cleavage?
rapid cell division to form cluster of cells then blastocyte
When do the germ layers form and the establishment of body axes?
gastrulation
What occurs during morphogenesis?
formation of body plans, embryonic scaffolding and development of shape
what occurs during organogenesis?
the start of organ development
Name 3 things which can influence development?
- genetics
- epigenetic
- environment e.g drinking alcohol during pregnancy
Name the 6 phases of embryogenesis?
1,gametogenesis
- fertilization
- cleavage
- gastrulation
- morphogensis
- organogenesis
Where does fertilization take place?
apulla of uterine tubes
What week of embryogenesis does gastrulation take place?
week 3
during gastrulation what does the ectoderm become?
the epidermis of skin and nervous system
during gastrulation what does the mesoderm become?
- paraxial-dermis, voluntary muscles, axial skeleton
- intermediate-urogenital systems
- lateral plate-somatic mesoderm (lines body wall) , visceral mesoderm (covers organs)
During gastrulation what does the endoderm become?
lining of gut tube and lining of respiratory tract
