Q

Neural Tube

A
  • Forms brain and spinal cord
  • Brain is the expanded cranial end (fore, mid, hind brain)
  • Parts
    • Canal: Forms the ventricles of the brain
    • Nerve cell bodies (grey matter): Line the canal
      • Motor: ventral
      • Sensory: dorsal
    • Nerves (white matter): On the outside
  • Brain develops with more grey matter on the surface

    • Adrenal medulla
    • Autonomic ganglia
    • Dorsal root ganglia
    • All the nerves
  • Shwaan cells (myelin sheath)
  • Leptomeninges: Pia and Arachnoid meninges
  • Melanocytes

Q

Paraxial Mesoderm

A

Types

  • Dermatome
  • Myotome
  • Sclerotome

Migration

  • Cells begin in paraxial position, then migrate
  • Epimere: cells of dermatome + myotome that stay, become dermis + muscles of back
  • Hypomere: cells of dermatome + myotome that migrate to the somatopleure, become dermis + muscles of the body and limbs
