Embryology Flashcards
Neural crest
Cell types derived from the neural crest include spinal and autonomic ganglion cells and Schwann cells of peripheral nerves.
Neurulation
The process of formation if the neural tube from the ectoderm.
Alar plate
Neurons developing in the alar plate are predominantly sensory in function and receive dorsal nerve roots growing in from the spinal ganglia
Basal plate
Neurons in the basal plate are predominantly motor and give rise to ventral nerve roots.
At 4 weeks what are the future forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain.
Prosencephalon
Mesencephalon
Rhombencephalon
Ventricular system
Lateral ventricles communicate with third ventricle within diencephalon (thalamus).
Third ventricle communicates with fourth through cerebral aqueduct of midbrain.
Produces and secretes CSF
Corpus callosum
Large commissure links two cerebral cortex.
Prosencephalon
Telencephalon- cerebral hemispheres, cortex
corpus striatum
Diencephalon- basal plate, thalamus
hypothalamus
Mesencephalon
Midbrain
Rhombencephalon
Pons, cerebellum, medulla oblongata
