Email Security Flashcards
Mail gateway
is a server or service that acts as an intermediary for email messages sent and received within an organization or between different organizations
SPF (Sender Policy Framework)
is an email authentication protocol designed to prevent email spoofing and ensure that incoming mail from a domain comes from a host authorized by that domain’s administrators. SPF helps reduce the risk of phishing attacks and improves the overall security of email communication
DKIM (Domain Keys Identified Mail)
is an email authentication method designed to detect forged sender addresses in emails, commonly known as email spoofing. DKIM allows the sender to associate a domain name with an email message by using cryptographic signatures, which helps ensure that the email content has not been altered in transit
DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication)
is an email authentication protocol that builds on the existing SPF (Sender Policy Framework) and DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) protocols to provide a mechanism for email senders and receivers to improve security and combat email spoofing and phishing attacks.
