EM Waves Flashcards
What are the seven types of electromagnetic waves?
Radio waves, Microwaves, Infra red, Visible light, Ultra violet, X-Rays and Gamma rays.
What EM wave has the highest frequency and smallest wavelength?
Gamma rays.
How are radio waves used for communication?
Short-wave signals reflect off the ionosphere and transmit there signals to satellites (radio and tv) and long-wave signals diffract around the earth.
What are microwaves used for?
Satellite communication and mobile phones
How do optical fibres work?
They carry data over long distances very quickly. The signal is carried as pulses of light or infra red radiation and is reflected off the sides of a very narrow core from one end of the fibre to the other.
The higher the frequency, the higher the _____.
Pitch
