ELSS 4 Flashcards
1
Q
INTER DEPENDACE
Atmosphere. 1
A
- greenhouse affect= warming temp due to long wavelength radiation absorbed = evaporation and convective rainfall
2
Q
INTER DEPENDACE
Oceans 2
A
- carbonation occours, weathering products enter the ocean via precipitation, availible for photosynthesis and shells for marine life
- atmospheric co2 influences sea temp = thermal expansion and melting of glaciers
3
Q
INTER DEPENDACE
vegetation 3
A
- photosynthesis = glucose product from carbon ( co2 ) and hydrogen from water
- increased rainfall increased run off = soil erosion and carbon leaving the system
- less carbon in system = lack of nutrients = risk of desertification = decreases transpiration rate due to lack of growth
4
Q
INTER DEPENDACE
Cryosphere 2
A
- increased co2 levels in atmosphere means greenhouse affect occours = melting of cryosphere, more sea surfaces for plyoplankton = increased photosynthesis
- permafrost melting = organic matter growing and oxidisation of peat = releced co2
5
Q
REMOTE SENSING
what is it and 2 types and why useful
A
- process of detecting and monitering the physical characteristics of an area by measuring its reflected and emmited radiation
passive = no emmissions sent absorbs radiation
active = sends out own emmisions
useful = large area coverage, can be anaylised and interpreted
6
Q
GIS
what is it
A
- intergrated computer tools for gathering, storing and processing geographical data that can be layered on a map
7
Q
NASA
what are the 4 things that it measures
A
- snowcover
- watervapour
- vegetation
- chlorophyll
8
Q
NASA -
3 satelites and what they do
A
ICEsat2 - provides power and orbit control for ATLAS ( european satellite)
GoSAT
- observs greenhouse gasses = co2 and methane
landSAT - tracks the amazon deforestation
