The Coutiers
The Earl of Worcester made a painting of his Son’s wedding with Elizabeth as the centre of attention
In 1601, Elizabeth granted him an important job at court so he commissed the painting for her to flatter and thank her for her patronage and to boast powerful court connections
Catching the Queen’s eye
Nobles had great influence in their land with Elizabeth relying on them to tell her the mood among her people.
They needed her more than Elizabeth needed them
If the noblemen were in favour with the Queen he could more easily build a network of his own loyal supporters and secure his land and wealth.
