The pope instructed catholics to not attend church services. Many catholicd refused to go to church services, which led to the revolt of the northern earls.
What was the revolt of the northern earls
A failed revolt that tried to overthrow Elizabeth and place the catholic queen, mary queen of scotts in charge. However the uprising was quickly supressed, consolodating Elizabeths power
Why did the Elizabeth see Mary as a threat
Mary was seen as a threat because she was seen as the legitimate monarch of the english throne, especially by the catholics.
What was the intentions behind the Babington plot
Duke of Guise to invade england and encourage catholics to rebel. Babington wrote to mary about the plot, and Mary became involved.
How did the babington plot end
The letters discussing the plot were intercepted and babington and his accomplices were executed. Mary was sentenced to death and was executed in 1587

It showed her harshness and how determined she was to stamp out any opposition

Drake sailed into cadiz harbour and destroyed 30 spanish ships and a large amount of supplies. This delayed spanish preperations to attack england by a year. This gave england more time to prepare
