definition of talent identification:
am process by which children are encouraged to participate in the sports, in which they are most likely to succeed, based upon certain testing parameters.
these parameters are designed to predict performance capacity.

what psychological factors are required for an elite athlete?
competitiveness determination willingness to train/sacrifice commitment mental toughness

there are different systems of talent identification. give some examples:
TESTING FOR TALENT- sports organisations have to identify the essential characteristics required for success in their sport. They need to establish norm values against which athletes can be compared. (identification screening)
SYSTEMATIC TALENT IDENTIFICATION PROGRAMMES- waiting for an athlete to shine in competition is not considered too late in identifying and developing talent to its full potential. some countries have developed scientific methods to identify talented indiv’s, and help them find a sport most suited. (popular in eastern countries and China)

how long does talent identification take?
6-8 years for a promising sportsman or woman to get to the point where they can deliver medals on the world’s senior stage.
who is capable of becoming an elite athlete/ talent identification?
those who are tactically aware, physically and mentally strong, coach-able, and able to make significant sacrifices will survive.
how is talent idenitification achieved?
series of rigorous assessments and filters to detect individuals that have ‘higher probability’ for podium success.
the system has to be smart enough to select indiv’s based on their POTENTIAL and future abilities.
what is anthropometry?
refers to the measurement of the human individual.
the world class talent programme is designed to…..
support the identification and confirmation of athletes who have the potential to progress through the world class pathway with the help of targeted investment. (funding/coaching/expenses/kit)
providing them with the right attributes to peform effectively on the world stage
olympic athletes will be a maximum of 8 years away from the podium- could be much less for paralympian
