Aerobic Energy Systems Flashcards
how many phosphates are there in triphosphate?
3
energy is released when ATP is broken down, and is required to resynthesis it.
resynthese means:
to rebuild/remake/make again
if 02 is used in a process/energy system it is called
aerobic energy system
if 02 is not used in a process it is called
anaerobic energy system
when we eat our food (6 classes of food) what does;
carbs turn into
fats turn into
protein turn into
carbs-glucose
fats- fatty acids + glycerol
protein- amino acids
they all then enter the blood stream
glucose dissolves into the blood plasma and circulates around the body in the blood system. any excess glucose that enters the blood following digestion of a meal may be stored in muscles and liver as glycogen.
when these are full, any excess is converted into fat droplets and stored in adipose tissue
what is glycogen?
store of glucose
what is adipose tissue?
special tissue made up of cells in which fats are stored, mainly found under the skin and surrounding major organs
what are triglycerides?
main form of stored fat, used as an energy source
LIVER readily converts:
. less readily converts:
LIVER readily converts glucose into fat
LIVER less readily converts into glycogen
how much energy comes from fats (at rest?)
1/2 to 2/3
ratio alters when we exercise- strength/time
up to what % of our energy demands may be met through protein breakdown?
up to 10%
what is glucose?
the main form of carbohydrate found in the body, dissolves in blood plasma, used as an energy source
