how can technology aid and hinder sport?
Advances in technology have had a profound impact on sport including:
- enables coaches to improve their quality of feedback to players/athletes.
- increase accuracy in time measurements of sport performance
- enabling referees and sport officials to make better decisions on rule infringements
- improvements in the design of sport equipment and clothing for both increased performance and safety
- provides spectators with better viewing of sport performance
what is an elite athlete?
someone who trains hard
- experience
- strength
- speed
- technique (physical skill)
- mindset (psychological)
- aerobic capacity
- coordination
- agility
- someone who competes at a high level
- highly trained and successful
- world champions or olympic medalist
- genetics (general shape - height & weight), (fitness - proportion of slow or fast twitch fibres
elite athletes
what factors make an elite athlete?
fitness - different sports have different fitness demands. High levels of speed and power are required to be an elite net baller.
genetics - factors such as height and percentage of fast-twitch fibres are out of the control of the athlete. Defenders and shooters are particularly tall in netball.
psychological factors - factors such as the motivation to train, concentration, determination and competitive spirit will all influence results.
skill acquisition - the ability to learn and refine skills varies. Some are quick learners, others are not. Strong ball skills are essential in netball.
