Elisa Test: ELISA Immuno Explorer Kit Flashcards
What does ELIZA?
Enzyme,Linked ,Immunoabsorbent, Assay
What is ELISA used for?
Used to detect antigen or antibody in a sample
What is antigen?
Molecules that cause your body to mount an immune response may include components of infectious agents like bacteria, viruses, and fungi
What is Primary Antibodies?
antibodies used to recognize antigens like disease agents and confer specificity to the assay.
What is secondary Antibodies?
secondary antibodies recognize and bind to the primary antibodies, which are antibodies from another species.
Examples of ELISA In-Clinic Tests
heartworm
parvovirus
FeLV, FIV
Lyme, Ehrlichia,
Anaplasma
Giardia
canine brucellosis
progesterone
pregnancy
The purified antigen homologous to the antibody being tested for is added to the wells of the microstripes. True or False
True
why is the ELISA test performed?
the test is often used to see if you have been exposed to viruses or other substances that cause infection.
What is a blocking agent used for?
used to coat the well where antigens have not attached
What is the first step in the indicator reactions
adding secondary antibodies to the wells
What is the second step in the indicator reaction?
to use the enzyme on the secondary antibody to indicate its presences
