Q

ELISA

A

Technique used in a wide variety of applications
Medicine – Measure amounts of disease-related proteins in serume.g. Allergy Tests, Prostate Cancer, HIV test
Veterinary – Spread of disease (e.g. Bird Flu)
Pharmaceuticals –Identify biomarkers in non-infectious disease (e.g. atherosclerosis)
Environmental – Measure of environmental pollutants in water
Lifestyle/Home use kits – Pregnancy Test, Chlamydia Test

Q

Purpose and aims of ELISA Laboratory Experiment

A

Follow the an immunisation schedule against a foreign protein (albumin), monitor the amount (titre) of specific antibody in the blood at defined time points after the organism has been immunized/vaccinated
Aims:
Monitor changes in the titre of antisera during an immunisation schedule

Determine whether the antisera, taken after the third immunisation, is specific to human albumin
