Enuresis

A
  • Peeing/bed-wetting
  • 5 years or older
  • 2x a week for 3+ months or distress/impairment
  • Can be involuntary or intentional
  • Can’t be attributable to a medical condition
  • Nocturnal or diurnal
  • Primary (has never been able to stay dry) versus secondary
  • More common in males
  • High remission rates
  • Associated with some behavior problems, developmental delays, anxiety, etc.
  • Risk 10 x higher if parental history

Encopresis

A
  • 4 years or older
  • Repeated passage of feces in inappropriate places
  • 1+ per month for 3+ months
  • Can be involuntary or intentional
  • Can be due to prolonged constipation, which leads to impacting
  • More common in boys
  • Have to rule out medical conditions
  • Emotional and learning theories on this
