Elements of Pharmacology Flashcards
What is Cmax?
The peak CONCENTRATION of a drug
What is Tmax?
The TIME at which a drug’s concentration peaks.
What are the qualities of generic drugs?
- contain identical active ingredient in identical dose amount.
- demonstrated comparable kinetics in healthy volunteers. (F, AUC, Cmax, Tmax)
- pharmacokinetic equivalence has been demonstrated, not clinical efficacy!
what are excipients?
glues, dyes, preservatives. these are allowed to vary from the brand-name to the generic form of drug. may cause allergy to one or the other.
what is impt about a drug that is adminstered sublingually?
will bypass the liver, gets into circulation via the inferior vena cava.
what is the definition of pharmacokinetics?
what the patient does to the drug. adsorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion.
what is the definition of pharmacodynamics?
what the drug does to the patient, both intended and unintended.
what does F refer to?
oral bioavailability. IV = 100%
