Elements of effective teaching in a professional environment Flashcards
What are the main responsibilites of all flight instructors with regards to the learning process?
Helping learners Learn
Demanding appropriate standards of performance
Emphazising the positive
Ensuring aviation safety
Providing adequate instruction
What additional responsibilities do all flight instructors have?
Evalutationf learners pilot ability
Practical Test recommendations
Pilot supervision
Flight Instructor Endorsements
Additional trainining and endorsements
Pilot proficiency Responsibility to see and avoid
Learners pre solo flight thought process
How can an instructor minimize learner frustrations during training?
Motivate Learners
Approach Learners as individuals
Give credit when due
Critize constructively
Be consistent
Admit Errors
Why is it important to use standards of performance when training learners?
The use of standards and measurement against standards, is key to helping learners.
Meeting standards holds its own satisfaction for learners.
People want to feel capable, and the are proud oof the successful achievement of difficult goals.
When shoould application of the minimum acceptable standards for passing a checkride be introduced during flight training?
The minimum standards to pass the checkride should be kept in the proper perspective, with emphasis on the learner meeting test standards increasing later in the training - the ACS (PTS) is a testing document, not a teaching document.
To teach effectively, why must an instructor make sure that a learners physiological needs are met first?
During flight training, learners may react to unfamiliar noises or vibrations, experiencing unfamiliar sensations due to g - Force, or having an uncomfortable feelin in their stomach.
To teach effectively instructors cannot ignore the existence of the negative factors, nor should they ridicule learners who are adversly affected. These negative sensations can usually be overcome by understanding the nature of their causes. Remember, a sick learner does not learn well.
How can an instructor ensure that an adequate level of instruction is provided to a learner?
We have to understand that no two learners are alike, and a particular method of instruction cannot be equally effective for all learners.
An instructor should tailor teaching techniques to the learner by first analyzing the learners personality, thinking, and ability.
The instructor should also be prepared to change instruction methods as the learner advances through successive stages of training.
How can an instructor ensure that a learner has developed the ability and required skills necessary to conduct their first solo flight safely?
What important responsibility do all flight instructors have with respect to pilot supervision?
Flight instructors have the responsibility to provide guidance and restraint with respect to the solo operations of their learners.
The flight instructor is the only person in a position to make the determination a learner is ready for solo operations.
Before endorsing a learner for solo flight, the instructor should require the learner to demonstrate consistent ability to perform all of the fundamental maneuvers.
Describe the overall responsibility as an instructor regarding endorsements and recommendations for knowlede tests and practical tests.
Making an endorsement of signing recommendations imposes a serious responisbility on the flight instructor.
If an instructor fails to ensure a learner pilot meets the requirements of regulations prior to making endorsements or recommendations, that instructor is exhibiting a serious deficiency in performance.
The FAA holds him or her accountable. It is also a breach of faith with the learner or applicant.
What is the instructors code of ethics?
Making safety the number one priority
Develop and exercise good judgment in making decisions
Recognize and manage risk effectively
Be accountable for his or her actions.
Act with responsibility and courtesy
Adhere to prudent operating practices and personal operating parameters.
Adhere to applicable laws and regulations.
