Sender
The one initiating the message. First generates idea -> sends it in an understandable manner.
Message
The info intended to be communicated. It is the content the sender wants to convey.
Encoding
Process of expressing the idea into appropriate medium. It may be non/verbal.
Transforming idea into something like pictures, words, symbols, etc.
Channel
How the message is delivered.
(Ex. TV broadcasts, internet platforms, face-to-face interactions)
Receiver
Effectiveness of comm. depends on rec’s ability to understand the message as intended.
Not sender’s fault, but receiver’s understanding skills
Decoding
Process of interpreting and understanding.
It’s the rec’s job to turn the message into a meaningful concept.
Feedback
The response of the receiver.
Ensures message has been en/decoded.
Response or reaction to a mesage, indicates if they understood or not
Noise
External Component of Comm.;
Any sort of interference that affects the message being sent, received, or understood
Basically the minor inconvenience
Physiological Noise
Physical conditions (headache, hunger, etc.) or impairments (disabilities) that hinder comm.
Psychological Noise
Interal factors (prejudice, assumptions, distractions, daydreaming) + emotional state (anger, sadness)
Jus the mental factor pretty much
Has to be enough to affect understanding
Context
External Factor of Comm.
The setting/situation where the comm. takes place.
Physical Setting
Literal location
Social Setting
Relationship between sender and rec
Cultural Context
Shared beliefs, values, and customs that influence comm.
