A mark made by a pointed tool, such as a pencil, pen, brush, etc. Often defined as a moving point. Has length and width, but width is tiny compared to length.
Line
Five types of lines are
Horizontal, vertical, diagonal, curvy, zig zag
An area contained within a line or implied line. Also may be seen because of color or value changes. Usually used to describe 2D objects.
Shape
Can be created with compass, ruler, & generally have specific names like square, circle, triangle.
Geometric shapes
Have no specific names, soft edges with irregular borders, found in nature, vary in size & number.
Organic shapes
Describes volume or mass. A 3D object, used mainly to describe sculptures or ceramic art works.
Form
Derived from reflected light. The sensation of this is caused in the brain as a response of the eyes to different wavelengths of light (roy g biv)
Color
Refers to lightness or darkness of a color. One of the 3 properties of color.
Value
The quality of the surface of an artwork, both visual and actual. Appeals to your sense of TOUCH.
Texture
The distance around, between, above, below, and within a 3D object. Also creates illusion of depth in 2D works.
Space
foreground (bottom of picture), middle ground (middle area), background (towards top of picture)
Perspective
The actual objects
Positive space
the spaces around and holes inside objects or areas
Negative space
