Elements & Compounds Flashcards
What is an element?
A substance made up of one type of atom
What is an atom?
A small particle that all things are made up of
What is a compound?
Two or more different elements chemically bonded
What does it mean for elements to be ‘chemically bonded’?
It means that you can’t separate them back into their original forms
What is a mixture?
Two or more substances not chemically bonded - can be separated
How do elements become chemically bonded?
Through a chemical reaction
When a metal chemically bonds with a non-metal, what is the usual ending we add to the non-metal?
-ide
