What is an element?
A substance that can not be broken down into simpler components by any non-nuclear chemical reaction
How is an element uniquely determined?
By the number of protons in the nuclei of it’s atoms
What is an Alkali metal?
An element with one electron in its outer shell
What is an Alkaline Earth Metal?
An element with two electrons in its outer shell
What is a Halogen?
An element with 7 electrons in its outer shell and when reacting with metals forms a slat
What is a Noble Gas?
An element with 8 electrons in its outer shell and generally doesn’t react with almost anything
