Who comes under Employer’s Responsibility?
Basically anyone working under their control or direction and includes part-time, temporary, trainees, contractors, visitors and the general public.
How often should Company Health and Safety be reviewed?
Annually unless changes occur in the meantime in regards personnel, legislation, processes, etc.
What responsibilities do employees have under section 7 of the HASAWA?
- Taking reasonable care for the health and safety themselves and others.
- Co-operating with employers.
- Not interfering with, or deliberately misusing.
How Does a Safety Culture Improve Performance?
Good reputation. Costs of accidents reduced. Job security, job satisfaction etc. Delivery times. Compensation costs are reduced. Profit margins increase. Legal costs are reduced. Workers support each another Commitment to safety is clearly shown.

What is the definition of a Risk Assessment?
Identifying preventive and protective measures by evaluating the risk(s) arising from a hazard(s), taking into account the adequacy of any existing controls, and deciding whether or not the risk(s) is acceptable.
What is the definition of a Control Measure?
Anything (action or measure) put in place either to eliminate the hazard or reduce the risk.
What 4 qualities must a “Risk Assesor” possess?
SCEK Sufficient knowledge. Correct skills and training. Experience. Knowledge of his own limitations.
When should Assessments be undertaken?
Where they have never taken place before.
When there are changes
When there are significant personnel/staff changes.
When changes have been made to Regulations or codes of practice.
In the case of external changes that have occurred
On a regular basis to review the efficiency of present systems.
What are the 5 steps for Risk Assessment?
HPE RR
STEP 1: Identify the hazards.
STEP 2: Identify the persons at risk.
STEP 3: Evaluate the risks and decide whether the existing precautions are adequate or whether more should be done.
STEP 4: Record your findings.
STEP 5: Review your assessment and revise it if necessary.

What is the definition of Risk?
The likelihood of a hazard being realised
How can we reduce risk?
Reduce the likelihood.
Reduce the severity.
Reduce both likelihood and severity.
What are the 5 steps to formulate a “Safe system of work”?
- Assessing the Task.
- Identifying the Hazards.
- Defining Safe Methods.
- Implementing the System.
- Monitoring the System.
Where can Company “Internal Sources of Information” be found?
Accident, Ill-health and Absence Data.
Audits and Inspections.
Investigation Reports.
Maintenance Records.
What needs to be included in an Emergency Procedure?
Plans and layout of the site.
Means of raising the alarm and contacting the emergency services.
Special responsibilities, including the person who contacts and meets the emergency services.
Provision of fire marshals and arrangements for visitors and the disabled.
Special procedures to carry out, for example, switching or isolation equipment or services.
Fire fighting equipment and other equipment to be used, for example spillage kits.
Arrangements for when the site is unoccupied.
Correct number of emergency exits.
Places of safety (this may require emergency lighting).
Nominated competent person to take control.
