Electrostatics & Magnetism Flashcards
What is the difference between test charge & source charge ?
TC (q) is the charge placed in the electric field, while SC (Q) is what actually creates the electric field
The ratio of the magnitude of a charge’s electric potential energy to the magnitude of the charge itself defines ?
Electric potential
- Scalar quantity
- Sign determined by Q value
A line in which the potential & every point is the same is known as ?
Equipotential line
-potential diff = 0
What are the 3 different classifications of magnetic fields ?
Diamagnetic: atoms w/ no paired e-‘s & have no net magnetic field
Paramagnetic: weakly magnetized in the presence of external magnetic field, aligning magnetic dipoles of material w/ external field
Ferromagnetic: strongly magnetized when exposed to magnetic field
