Circuits Flashcards
Current is considered the flow of + charge even though what ?
Only - charges are actually moving
What are materials that offer little to no resistance & materials that offer high resistance called ?
Conductors & Insulators (respectively)
The # that characterizes the intrinsic resistance to current flow in a material is called what ?
Resistivity (ohm-meter)
Resistors in series can be treated as a single resistor w/ the sum of resistors of all individual resistors & is termed ?
Equivalent or Resultant resistance
What is characterized by its ability to hold charge @ a particular voltage ?
Capacitors
The ratio of the magnitude of the charge stored in 1 plate to the potential difference (voltage) across the capacitor is known as ?
Capacitance
What is another way of saying insulation ?
Dielectric material (can never be less than 1)
What are some different types of meters used in circuits, & what do they measure ?
Ammeters: measure current @ some point in the circuit
Voltmeter: measures voltage drop between 2 points in circuit
Ohmmeter: can measure current in active or inactive circuit (can use readings to calculate resistance)
